Reno County Abstract & Title, Inc. (RCAT, Inc.) is a full service abstract and title insurance agency dedicated to providing prompt and professional title insurance policies, closings, certificates of titles, home equity policies, foreclosure binders, sheriff sales, and limited title searches.

RCAT's history begins in 1884. Originated by J.S. May in 1884 when he was serving as register of deeds for Reno County. The original name of the company was the May Abstract & Title Company. The company changed ownership twice before Merv C. Hartke, John F. Hayes, and William Miller bought the company in 1955 and was then incorporated as the May Abstract & Title Company, inc. In 1969, Merv purchased the interest of his partners. When Merv purchased the company, he was the manager of Hall abstract company, where he got his start in the title business in 1941. 

The Hall Abstract & Title was founded by the Charles Hall family in 1879. Merv purchased the abstracts books, files, and records from Hall Abstract when they discontinued business in 1970. He incorporated the two businesses into Reno County Abstract & Title, Inc.

In 1987 Merv sold his business to Marvin H. Boor but continued to work as a consultant. Upon the death of Marvin H. Boor, Merv and his wife Winnie purchased the company back from the Boor estate.

The Hartke's sold the company to Charles and Suzanne Brown as RCAT, Inc in 1991. Charlie Brown has over 30 years in the lending business and continues to operate RCAT, Inc. today, at 408 North Main in Hutchinson, Kansas.
